The Jaguars held on to beat the Steelers 31 to 29 in a game full of hard hits and scoring. Jacksonville jumped out to a 21 to 7 lead only to let Pittsburgh rally to take a 29 to 28 lead with about 5 minutes left. The Jaguars move the ball within the red zone an kick a field goal. Another get game settled by a kicker.
I don't have a problem with the field goal itself because it is part of the game. My problem is that Jacksonville had the opportunity to score a touchdown but chose to kick the field goal so they would give the Steelers as little time possible on the clock to try and score.
The field goal is used to get a score when your offense has been stopped. It is a secondary form of scoring. A team settles for a field goal so they can get something out of a drive that stalled 25 yards short of the end zone. The point of the game is the touchdown not a kick from 25 out by a guy not even wearing pads.
But doesn't really matter the Patriots will take out whoever they play.
