The Patriots offense struggled with Tom Brady throwing 3 interceptions and Randy Moss disappearing once again in the playoffs. The NFL's highest scoring offense scored 21 points and had to hold off a team whose 3 top players were injured. The Giants struggled to score after giving up multiple scoring opportunities and settling for field goals. The Packers took advantage of the Giants mistakes to hang around to force overtime in a game they were out played in. The Packers had 2 solid drives and picked up another score on a short field after a Giant turnover. The game was entertaining because it was cold, tied with 10 minutes left and it was the NFC Title game. The game itself was full of poor execution and it was settled with a field goal.
The NFL should make field goals illegal from the 2 minute warning on. Make the team coming from behind score a touchdown to win. The TD is the expectation of the offense when it takes the field. A FG is what is done when the drive stalls and the team tries to salvage their efforts with 3 points instead of the desired 6. The Giant's won on a 47 yard FG. The kicker standing at midfield nailed the kick after the offense moved the ball 10 yards and stalled no where near the goals line. I hate game winning field goals. They feel cheap, they feel contrived, and I feel the team that won didn't earn the win because the defense stopped them from scoring. The ball should go to the defense and the game should be allowed to be played the way instead of ended from 35 yards from the goal line.
